Rest to Rise: Transforming Rest into Resilience at The Gathering Inn

At The Gathering Inn, we understand that a good night's sleep is more than just a comfort—it's a crucial foundation for empowerment and personal growth. That's why we are excited to introduce our new initiative: the StepUp Bed system. This innovative program aims to replace our current dormitory-style metal bunk beds with individual bedding cubicles that offer not just rest, but a private sanctuary for our guests.

Why Change?

Our current sleeping arrangements, while functional, do not provide the optimal environment for our guests who are working hard towards the goal of sustainable housing. The lack of proper support and privacy can hinder the physical and emotional well-being necessary to face the challenges of reintegration into society. Our guests, like RAWB, a Navy veteran and poet, who shared that "I choose light instead of darkness," deserve every possible tool we can provide to help them succeed.

The StepUp Solution

Each StepUp Bed is a modular unit designed with the user's needs in mind. These units include a locker for personal items, a cutout box for books, and a personal light, creating a sense of ownership and privacy. By fostering a better rest environment, we equip our guests with the energy and confidence needed to pursue their goals.

Your Role in This Journey

But to make this vision a reality, we need your help. Each bed costs $2,000, and a pod of four beds is $8,000. We invite you to contribute to this transformative project. By sponsoring a bed or a pod, you are not just providing a place to sleep; you are building a future.

Join Us Now

Please join us by making a donation today.  All donations count. For those who sponsor a full pod, a special nameplate will be placed on the pod with a personalized message of hope. This is your chance to leave a lasting impact, not only on our facilities but more importantly, on the lives of those we serve.

Together, we can turn rest into resilience and make a tangible difference in the journey to sustainable housing. Join us in this crucial initiative—because at The Gathering Inn, we believe that building a bed is akin to building a future.

The lives renewed with hope for the future are most inspiring at The Gathering Inn. Second chances freely given, opportunities for growth are daily offered and people helping people surrounded by the warmth of humility and gratitude.  For this dynamic of transformational impact, The Gathering Inn exists, and we as a family of supporters remain committed to addressing the challenges associated with homelessness.

Throughout our family of services for individuals experiencing homelessness, our doors lead to new beginnings.  Within the safety of our communities, guests experience acceptance and connection along with accountability and freedom. Often our guests rediscover their motivation for positive change along with newly found stability and structure inside our walls.  Most importantly, resources and tools empower our guest to transition into sustainable housing with dignity and self-sufficiency.

It all began when compelled to meet the needs of the homeless, a group of Placer County ministers met in January 2004 to discuss opening their doors during the coldest months of the year.  This collaboration of 13 congregations provided food, shelter, hospitality, and a sense of dignity to the homeless of Placer County.  Then, due to increasing demand after 3 short years, The Gathering Inn evolved into a year-round program.

As needs became clearer and resources were made available through the generosity of donors and the participation of local governments, The Gathering Inn expanded to offer a complete continuum of housing and supportive services. Programs include emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, and medical respite housing.  Supportive services include a clothing closet, showers and laundry services, case management, resource navigation, education, and training, along with a medical and dental clinic and a mental health program.  Not only does The Gathering Inn exist to fulfill the original mission and vision of our founders, but it also builds on that foundation by expanding services that address barriers to housing.  The lives of The Gathering Inn guests are transformed by inspiring self-sufficiency and inviting them to achieve sustainable housing.

Today, The Gathering Inn is considered a uniquely special program serving the unsheltered residents of Placer County. The program’s success is made possible through the generosity of donors and the compassionate involvement of over 40 churches and community organizations.  These partners provide a safe place to sleep, a delicious meal and the assurance that every guest is cared for and valued.
