MERISTEM: Skills for Life

I am privileged to work as part of the MERISTEM team: our mission – preparing young neuro-atypical adults in developing a strong sense of self, enhanced social capacity, leading toward social and economic independence.  We’re working to create a world, where the unique capabilities of adults on the spectrum are respected and appreciated.

In our “Math-Money, Life Skills” class, we practice exercises in realistic Budgeting, balancing wants vs. needs, managing our wages & income, Shopping strategy. Through exercises in various ways to manage credit cards, we prepare to make the most of our future budgets.

We were privileged to have a tour and instruction in banking at River City Bank; we even got to peek into the bank vault with safe deposit boxes.

In “How Stuff Works”, we work on building or fixing various household appliances, and learn the details of digital equipment. After disassembling a computer, we will build one to donate.
