$20,000 Goal

Friends of the Lincoln Public Library (FOLL) formed over 35 years ago to support the Lincoln Public Library. It is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. In 2023, we committed over $100,000 to the library. In addition, volunteers provided over 5,451 hours on FOLL fundraising and library promotion activities.

While Lincoln Public Library is a public agency with limited resources and only 12 dedicated staff, its physical and digital resources and extensive programming are relied upon by a growing population of Lincoln residents and surrounding communities.

Mission

Friends of the Lincoln Public Library (FOLL) is a membership-supported, non-profit corporation, registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our mission is to support and promote the Lincoln Public Library. We augment the library’s budget, allowing the library to offer programs, resources and events that appeal to all ages. We partner with the library to encourage children's and teen's interest in reading. And we support the library's efforts to become a favorite destination, to expand the community’s use of the library and to reach underserved areas.

Needs

Our goals are developed to support the library’s action plan to reach every member of our community. We look forward to raising $20,000 during the Big Day of Giving to assist all users of the Lincoln Public Library. Here's a breakdown of how we plan to use your donations to support the library:

$5,000 - CHILDREN'S LITERACY

With your support, for the past three years, we’ve provided a free book to every first grader through the Read Across Lincoln program. We’ve reached even younger children with “Read to Me Baby Literacy,” Mother Goose On The Loose and other library programs.

"Learning to read using home libraries, and exposure to public libraries, helps children achieve future success in life." Kathryn Hunt - Lincoln Library Director

$5,000 FAMILY ART NIGHT

Last year FOLL teamed up with the Lincoln Public Library to engage all ages with art projects. Over 500 community members participated in a variety of artistic events including the Tiny Art Show and hands on projects. Due to the enthusiastic response, the Library plans to bring this interactive event back later this year.

$5,000 - TEEN ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

The Teen Advisory Board plans year-round activities aimed at keeping teens engaged in reading and the library. The highlight of the year is the Youth Literary Festival, which produced an anthology, "Across The Universe," that included the work of 58 students.

$5,000 DIGITAL RESOURCES - HOOPLA

Lincoln Public Library is committed to bringing an extensive selection of digital books and media to its patrons through the Hoopla streaming app. This service is especially important to residents with mobility or transportation issues. Hoopla’s popularity continues to grow, and FOLL hopes to provide increased funding.
