The Lincoln Public Library is where our community comes together to discover, connect, and learn. "Without FOLL (and donors like you), Lincoln would not have the vibrant library that it does — so thank you for continuing to invest in our community and its future." - Kathryn Hunt, Library Director.

How We Will Use Your Donation

For 2025, FOLL allocated $96,500 for the library's diverse range of programs, resources, events and activities serving all ages.

Research shows children with books at home do better in school.  FOLL will provide $17,000 of giveaway books for Read Across Lincoln (book for every first grader in Lincoln area), Read to Me-Baby Literacy Kits (distributed to low-income families), Summer Reading Program rewards and many special events held throughout the year. Last year, FOLL provided over 2,000 new giveaway books.

Teens involved in planning library events develop leadership and organization skills.  FOLL will purchase $3,000 of supplies for Teen Advisory Board (TAB) planned events, such as the Youth Literary Festival and Ice Cream Social, and for library's teen-focused activities, such as Battle of the Books.

Offering a broad selection of books and media encourages all ages to be actively engaged in reading and learning. FOLL will purchase $6,000 of children's nonfiction books, large print and audio books for adults with vision impairments, and youth magazines. We also will supplement funding for Zip Books, which helps the library fulfill patron book requests. Last year, FOLL purchased 380 physical books and magazine subscriptions for the library.

FOLL allotted $12,600 for the library's Hoopla subscription, an online service that allows library patrons to borrow and stream audiobooks, movies, music, and more. Additionally, FOLL will pay $6,000 for Kanopy, a streaming service that offers films and documentaries. Last year, library users accessed over 13,700 books, films and other media using Hoopla and Kanopy.

Early education and bringing the community to the library.  FOLL allotted $20,000 for performers, supplies and other costs of Family Art Night, Candlelight Concerts, Family Movie Night, Mother Goose on the Loose, the Lincoln Book Festival, Family Story Time, Fairy Tale Day and much more.  Last year, over 14,850 adults, teens and children participated in library programs and events.
