Her Health First

Reviewed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation

Originally founded as the Birthing Project in 1988, our mission was to decrease infant mortality within Sacramento's Black/African-American Community.  In 1991, our services began to grow, and we were incorporated as the Center for Community Health & Well Being (CCHWB).  The benefits that we provided to the community continued to expand into much-needed areas.  Today, as Her Health First, we offer the Black Mothers United program through a trauma-informed lens which includes education, Pregnancy Coach support, Doula services, Lactation support, and referrals to mental health and other critical resources. Her Health First prioritizes celebrating birthing people at all points in their pregnancy, and after.

Mission

Her Health First's mission is to improve health equity by providing support to pregnant Black/African American people in Sacramento County. We envision a community in which all birthing people have full and equal access to opportunities leading to the healthiest pregnancies and birth outcomes possible.
