I grew up riding my bicycle to the American River. It was a clean, beautiful place to enjoy nature near the city. Now the River and the creeks that feed it are in peril. Trash and pollutants are killing the wildlife.

For the last few years Julia and I have been cleaning the River on our own, but are excited to now be part of the River City Waterway Alliance. This fantastic group of volunteers removed over 1 million pounds of debris and thousands of discarded needles, batteries and electronics from our stream beds in their first year.

I am now on the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Area Creeks Council. They raise funds to preserve, protect, restore and maintain the natural streams in our urban communities through education, advocacy, financial support and technical expertise.

They are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit that raises funds and support groups like the River City Waterway Alliance.  Donations to the Creeks Council support the purchase of tools, event supplies, volunteer refreshments, and fuel. All donations are leveraged by donations from other individuals, grants, and in-kind support from public agencies and the hundreds of hours donated by local volunteers to protect and restore Sacramento’s waterways.

Give during the donation window, now through May 2, 2024.  The minimum gift is $10, but even small donations can make a big difference.  Contributions are tax deductible.  Federal ID # 26-3676166.
