Stanford Settlement was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1936, at the Governor Stanford Mansion. Initially the program was for girls needing a home and assistance. This necessary social service was transferred to the Sisters of Social Service and in the 1960's was moved to Sacramento's Gardenland area at the request of the city, who recognized the great need for social services there.
If you knew Sr. Claire Graham, she loved Stanford Settlement and worked in Gardenland as a young social worker.
Stanford today serves children, teens, seniors, their families and the surrounding neighborhoods. It is truly an oasis and needs support!
