When I arrived at Stanford Settlement for my social work internship with the Teen Center in fall of 1989, I had no idea that I'd found my professional home. That first year working with junior high and high school kids was a whirlwind of professional growth, and memorable moments!
The Teen Center help teens succeed in school and in life. It can be difficult to navigate the teen years under the best of circumstances, and more so for kids who are under-resourced. The Teen Center is more than a safe place to go after school. It provides socio-emotional support, and helps teens develop critical thinking skills and peaceful problem-solving techniques. Teen Center Social Workers provide high expectations along with unconditional positive regard. And it works.
When former participants come to visit and share their success about family, education, careers, and more, we KNOW that we've helped make a difference. Please help me raise funds for the Teen Center on Big Day of Giving. It will be the best money you've ever spent.
