UCP of Sacramento and Northern California is the leading provider of comprehensive services to children and adults with all developmental disabilities and their families. UCP works with over 3,600 people a month in our eight-county area, empowering children and adults who-without support-would be isolated from community.

UCP provides 14 programs and services to children and adults through 4 Program Divisions including:
* Family Respite
* Transportation
* Adult Programs (Adult Day Programs & CLASP - Independent Living)
* Recreation (Including the UCP Camp programs)

UCP serves children and adults with more than 20 types of developmental disability, including autism (56.4%), intellectual disability (11.8%), Down syndrome and others (15.3%) cerebral palsy (10.6%) and epilepsy (5.9%) within an eight-county region primarily serving Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada counties.

The money raised in our service area stays in our community. In fact, 90 cents of every dollar is reinvested back into programs and services for children, adults and their families.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of UCP of Sacramento and Northern California is to provide programs and services that improve the independence, productivity, and quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Needs

UCP of Sacramento and Northern California seeks unrestricted funding, which allows us the flexibility to meet the continuously changing needs of UCP's clients with developmental disabilities. UCP is committed to using your donations exactly as they are intended - 90 cents of every dollar that UCP receives goes directly to programs and services for our clients.

PRIORITY INITATIVE: UCP SADDLE PALS

Saddle Pals is UCP’s popular adaptive horseback riding program for children and adults with disabilities. Participants engage in horseback games and activities that encourage communication and teamwork, all while working towards their individual riding skills. When not on a horse, participants are busy caring for the horses by learning about grooming and tack equipment.

Now, with the partnership of The Sacramento Horseman’s Association, Saddle Pals has the chance to take a transformational step forward: building a dedicated new riding arena designed specifically for our therapeutic horsemanship program. Doing this will not only create accessible, weather-resilient environments for our participants, but allow us to expand our lesson capacity and shorten our growing waiting list.

Donations made to UCP during Big Day of Giving 2026 will directly support efforts to improve and expand the Saddle Pals program and facilities.

OTHER UCP PROGRAMS THAT NEED YOUR SUPPORT:

UCP ADULT DAY PROGRAMS

UCP’s services include seven unique Adult Day Programs, designed for participants to improve social and life skills, increase self-confidence and willingness to try new things, and reduce loneliness. These are critical to their emotional wellbeing and health.

Support for these programs will help ensure participants have access to transportation along with funding to support community integration activities like trips on public transportation, museum visits, and shopping excursions.

UCP RECREATION

UCP of Sacramento and Northern California’s recreation department provides interactive activities in the community that allow participants and their families to gather, make friends, and learn together. In partnership with community partners like Achieve Tahoe, Kickers Soccer, and Mondavi, UCP Recreation provides a wide variety of activities that are accessible and enjoyable for all.

BECOME A BOARD MEMBER

UCP seeks dedicated Board Members throughout the year who are passionate about creating opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in our community.
