$30,000 Goal

Founded in 2009, All About Equine Animal Rescue (AAE) works on the frontlines of horse rescue in Northern California, rescuing injured, sick, abandoned, and neglected horses, both wild and domestic. AAE is dedicated to rehabilitating and finding permanent homes for horses that come into our care. AAE has provided second chances to more than 400 horses and donkeys since 2009.

Who we help:

  • Injured, sick, abandoned, and neglected horses, donkeys, and farm animals. AAE often accepts horses and other animals that other facilities will not or cannot take, including senior animals and those with complicated injuries or illness.
  • Community. AAE receives inquiries from families who are experiencing illness or death of a family member, or unforeseen financial hardship, preventing them from caring for their horses.
  • Law enforcement and other equine/animal rescues. AAE works closely with other equine/animal rescues and county animal control agencies. AAE also provides support to other horse rescues which need assistance.
  • Sanctuary. Horses which have not or cannot be adopted into forever homes due to age, medical issues, or temperament are given lifelong care.

What we do:

  • Animal Rescue, Rehabilitation and Rehoming Operations. Animal intakes are evaluated by AAE’s staff, and provided with individual rehabilitation plans, including specialized diets, and medical care, as needed. All horses received dental and farrier care. AAE has a vetted adoption process ensuring horses and adoptees are a good match.
  • Community Involvement/Education. More than a hundred dedicated volunteers support horse care, facility maintenance, fundraising & events, outreach & education, grant research & writing, administration, and more. On average, volunteers contribute thousands of volunteer hours per year as the heartbeat of AAE.
  • Development of AAE’s Pilot Hill, California facility. Good progress has been made in the transition to and development of AAE’s home in Pilot Hill with the overarching goal of AAE’s sustainability and ensuring a safe haven for horses. AAE’s next project is the building of our Healing Horses Barn, with construction slated for the spring/summer of 2025.
  • Tack Store. Located in Shingle Springs, CA the tack store repurposes new or gently used horse tack, equipment, and supplies for AAE’s rescue operations and fund-raising efforts.
  • Communication. AAE connects with supporters through a e-Newsletter, social media outlets and direct communication.

Giving Activity

Mission

The specific charitable purpose of All About Equine Animal Rescue, Inc. (AAE) is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted and/or slaughter-bound animals, primarily equines (wild and domestic):  to provide food, shelter, care and handling, and veterinary care, as needed; to utilize a strategic process for matching healthy, rehabilitated animals with compatible, loving and permanent adoptive homes; to provide long term care for unadoptable animals; and to educate the community about abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted, and/or slaughter-bound animals.

Needs

Support for Basic Horse Care.  The monthly cost for basic care of a typical horse can range between $150 to $300, which includes costs for feed, hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming.  The costs can be considerably more when a horse requires a special diet, medications, shoes, diagnostics, surgery and/or additional veterinary care.

Funding for veterinary care. AAE often rescues horses that are severely underweight, have injuries or medical issues that need more urgent attention, and/or emergency care. Funds are needed for diagnostics (e.g., bloodwork, radiology, biopsy, etc.), treatment, medications, surgeries, follow-up, etc.

Volunteers. Volunteers are needed to support all aspects of operations including horse care, facilities, grant research/writing, administration, fundraising/events, outreach, used tack store support, administration, and more.

Infrastructure/Facility Development. After an incredibly generous donation, AAE acquired 61 acres of undeveloped land in 2018. AAE is developing our own "Fields of Dreams". AAE’s upcoming projects include:

--Footing for our arena to provide safety and comfort to the horses while working in the arena.

--Addition of an electronic round pen to provide more efficient and effective exercising for the horses to improve health. This equipment allows one person to exercise as many as four to six horses at the same time.

--Funding for a covered area to support year-round activities, including community-based programs

Construction of the Healing Horses Barn is slated to begin in summer of 2025.
