Needs
Because we do not receive government funding, we depend on your donations to house, feed, heal and place the thousands of animals entrusted to our care.
We Pay to Spay: We offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to the breeds most commonly found in our shelter -- pit bulls and chihuahuas. It is our hope that by offering these services at a reduced fee ($25 and $50 respectively) we will make spay and neuter surgeries more accessible, especially to those who might not otherwise be able to afford a costly procedure. By ensuring that these pet owners have access to spay and neuter, we are preventing future unplanned litters, and reducing the number of homeless and unwanted dogs that are entering our care.
Paws for Health Fund: One out of four animals that come into our shelter needs some kind of extra veterinary care before they can be ready for adoption. Needs range from something as basic as ear treatment or teeth cleaning to critical, life-saving surgery. We also provide the 'senior special' to our in-house senior animals, which may include bloodwork and a full dental cleaning.
Feline Spay and Neuter Fund: We offer free spay and neuter services to free-roaming cats (if trapped in Sacramento County), 10 appointment slots per day, Monday through Saturday. Services also include mandatory ear tip, FVRCP and rabies vaccinations, as well as flea and earmite treatment if needed.
Paw Pantry: With many facing uncertainty on how they will afford to care for their pets, we launched the Paw Pantry - a free drive-through pet pantry providing cat food, dog food, and kitty litter to low-income qualifying families who cannot afford food for their pets. We also deliver pet food to seniors who cannot leave their homes as well as members of the unhoused community.
The Joe Willie Initiatives: Senior cats and those requiring extra medical attention are given second and third chances thanks to this donor-supported fund. Established in 2019, funds help provide medical, and placement help to promote the adoption of senior cats and cats with special needs.
