The Me-One Foundation was co-founded in 2008 by Tom and Heidi Wieser during Tom's nine-year cancer journey. The Wieser family attended a camp for adult cancer patients, and it was more than life changing. It was exactly what they needed at the time. While there are many camps for children with cancer, through their research, they learned that there are only a handful of retreats that host adult cancer patients and their families at no cost to the family. Then and there, the Wieser's mission was born: To lessen the pain that a cancer diagnosis brings to patients and families.
Each summer, Camp Wieser brings together adult cancer patients and up to five of their loved ones for a memorable weekend getaway in the Santa Cruz mountains of Northern California. This cost-free retreat gives families the gift of time for quiet reflection, pampering, fun and a much-needed vacation from the whirlwind of doctor appointments, paperwork and treatments.
During the three-day weekend, campers enjoy the rustic-chic accommodations and can take part in as many activities as they wish, each geared for all ages and abilities. Arts and crafts, games, music and dancing, adventure sports and spa treatments have been past time favorites.
Each camper and their loved ones have the opportunity to have a professional photo session to remember their experience. Making memories is what Me-One is all about!
In 2020 and 2021 the Me-One Foundation was unable to host our traditional Camp Wieser because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Foundation Board, volunteers and supporters worked diligently to design an alternative camp experience for northern California cancer patients and their loved ones. During the pandemic, "Camp Wieser Staycation" was delivered to over 60 families. Campers were able to experience the joy and magic of Camp Wieser safely in their own homes. We are grateful to have had this experience and opportunity to develop a staycation model that still allows us to serve the most vulnerable population when needed.
To date, the Me-One Foundation has hosted 13 traditional camps, 4 Camp Wieser Staycations and served over 2,700 people.
In 2024 we are looking forward to hosting families at Camp Wieser, September 13, 14 and 15, at Missions Springs in Scott's Valley, CA.
