NorCal Bully Breed Rescue was founded in 2013 with the goal of saving unwanted and forgotten dogs.
Our focus is primarily bully breeds with major medical issues, but we try to save any dog in need where
we can. Some dogs in our local shelters will not be adopted because they have serious medical
conditions that the shelter cannot support, or they are being overlooked by adopters because they are
more advanced in age or are fearful and shut down, or they are a pregnant mama dog who cannot be
adopted but needs a safe place to have her puppies. We take on the most difficult cases because we see
the value in every dog’s life.
Our ability to provide critical medical care for these dogs comes from donations from our generous
supporters. When we receive information that there is a dog in need of rescue with immediate medical
needs, we reach out to our supporters for donations and ask them to share the need on their social
media pages. We are able to raise funds in these urgent circumstances because of the continued
beneficence of the loving people in our community. The people who provide any amount of support to
our rescue efforts know that they have participated in a group effort to save another life.
Because our rescue is foster based, we do not have a central facility where the dogs are housed while
they wait for their forever homes. All of our dogs live in loving foster homes with volunteers that go
through training and a vetting process to ensure that the dogs are in a safe environment while under our
care. We cannot do this work to save all these dogs without fosters to take care of the dogs. While the
dogs are in foster care, the rescue provides everything from food, medications, toys, beds, treats,
kennels, and any other supplies the foster needs.
Therefore, in addition to the money that is donated in response to our urgent pleas for assistance for a
critical medical condition, we are in constant need of support to provide the necessary supplies to our
fosters for the duration of each dog’s stay in our care before adoption. Every single dog in our rescue
must be spayed or neutered, and they all need monthly flea and heartworm prevention, food,
vaccinations, routine medical treatment, and general necessities.
The dogs in our rescue are given the best possible care while they are healing and waiting for their
forever homes. We take finding that forever home very seriously so the dogs that were once discarded
and forgotten do not find themselves in that situation again. Because we want to ensure that our dogs
are adopted into safe, secure, and loving homes, we have an extensive adoption process that involves
an application, a yard and home safety check, and multiple meet-and-greets between the dog and the
potential adopter. We have a trainer to assist with facilitating introductions between the rescue dog and
potential adopter’s dog, providing guidance for how to slowly acclimate the rescue dog into the home
for successful integration. These dogs deserve every opportunity to succeed in their new home, so we
go to great lengths to find the right family for each dog to minimize the chances that the dog will be
discarded again.
On this Big Day of Giving, we hope that you will consider donating to NorCal Bully Breed Rescue so we
can continue to rescue and foster as many dogs as possible. Every dollar makes a difference in the life of
a dog who has no other options after humans have failed him. We cannot do this work without
supporters like you, and you can take comfort in knowing that your choice to donate to NorCal Bully
Breed Rescue today went directly to save the life of a dog that needed you. Thank you.
