The Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, Inc. was incorporated in November 1998. Currently, there are 17 sponsoring/affiliated churches who collaborate to operate it. The Food Closet is a demonstration of the belief that we have a moral and spiritual obligation to aid residents of our community who are hungry and in need. The types of food we provide follow the USDA food group guidelines. We currently provide groceries to create 12 meals (4-days of food) for each household member.
Any resident living in our service area may receive food from us once every 30 days. Our service area encompasses 17 Placer County zip codes, ranging from Loomis to Emigrant Gap, and includes Auburn, Colfax and Foresthill. Any person residing in this region and requesting food will be supported.
AIFC is open Monday - Friday and the last Saturday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We also support a home delivery program for guests unable to come to us during these hours due to illness, disability and/or transportation issues.
We remain a totally volunteer organization, with over 200 people donating an average of 110 hours a year. Without having costs of staffing, 96% of our expenditures are returned to the community to support client programs.
