The Camellia Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has been performing in the Sacramento region for the past 60 years. What began initially as an outlet for musicians to get together and play for the love of music, has now grown into a thriving classical arts organization which employs some of the region's top music professionals, and has become an important part of Sacramento's arts landscape. The CSO presents six Season Concerts at the beautifully renovated McClatchy High School Auditorium, as well as Free Family Concerts at various locations throughout Sacramento. In addition to showcasing world-class soloists, the CSO is proud to present our Rising Star Series every year (now on its 6th edition), featuring young, extremely talented artists that deserve to be recognized and promoted. "We have created a season which we know folks in our region will love - it showcases a variety of composers, regional talent, and world-class soloists, and it inspires both our musicians and our audience" says Maestro Christian Baldini, Music Director and Conductor for CSO since 2012. The Free Family Concert Series is now in its 15th year and continues to be the backbone of CSO's educational outreach programming, in addition to our two youth orchestras: Camellia Juniors and Camellia Cadets. Our Family Concerts are always free and available to anyone who wishes to experience live classical music in a family friendly format. Under the leadership of Maestro Baldini, CSO has been committed to the performance of works by female composers, as well as minority composers that have been neglected on the stage. The concert programming is carefully selected to give concertgoers a holistic experience, not very different from going to a world class restaurant where the chef has taken every aspect into account to create a "unique experience" when designing and crafting each plate.

Mission

The Camellia Symphony Orchestra provides the Sacramento Region with unique, inspiring, and dynamic orchestral performances, educational and musical opportunities that integrate new works and established classics to enrich the cultural landscape.

Needs

1) The General Fund is used by the Management Team to cover all expenses for the Camellia Symphony Orchestra and the operational expenses of the Camellia Symphony Association, the Fiscal Sponsor of the orchestra.

2) The Artistic Discretionary Fund (ADF) is for the exclusive use of the Music Director as a supplement to budgeted expenses for special, artistic-related expenses: such as hiring guest artists, music rental fees, and instrument rental.

3) The Music Education Fund is used to support our youth orchestras, a Free Family Concert, a Rising Stars Concert and in our ongoing development of in-school classroom education programs and in community outreach programs.

4) A Reserve and Expansion Fund to ensure the smooth running of an organization dependent on the variable cooperation and support of a variety of public and private institutions and organizations. A reserve allows for the unexpected. It also allows the development of new relationships with other organizations and opportunities.

5) As a community service organization, the Camellia Symphony is largely a volunteer organization in constant need of a wide range of volunteer engagement. From musicians to pre-concert lobby attendants to Board of Directors and committee members to take leadership roles and to assist with activities. To thrive, the Camellia demands the respect due to volunteers for the work they do. Appreciation is often a given, while personal growth and satisfaction at collaborative work is the goal.

Equity Statement

The Camellia Symphony Orchestra celebrates, welcomes, and embraces all people -- musicians and audience alike. Our programming is particularly noted for showcasing the works of underrepresented composers.
