Capitol Ballet Company is a non-profit, pre-professional ballet company directed by Stuart Carroll and Sharon Newton since 1999. We are a volunteer organization staffed by highly skilled artistic directors, board members and volunteers so donations go directly to programming. The training received by the dancers is exceptional, thanks to the experience and dedication of our professional faculty.
Capitol Ballet Center, the school connected to the company, trains ages 4 to adult and inspires intermediate and advanced level dancers to join the company and perform, thereby preparing them for professional careers in ballet. Dancers in the company range in age from age 11 to adult. Capitol Ballet Company produces high quality ballet performances. In addition to our annual production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, our expanding repertoire includes La Bayadere, Le Corsaire Pas de Trois Don Quixote, Flames of Paris Pas de Deux, Giselle, Markitenka, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Napoli, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Les Sylphides, and Sylvia, in addition to excerpts from various other classical ballets.
Our contemporary ballet premieres include Grofe Variations, Concerto, Dvorak Serenade, Sweet Debussy, Spanish Rhapsody, Pastorale for Guitar and Ascension, Les Patineurs, Sweet and Low, and Shostakovich. Our season before the pandemic, we served about 2,000 audience members at our performances and about 25,000 individuals through community outreach events. Most of the individuals we serve are youth, followed by adults, families, and seniors.
