At Consumers Self Help Center we believe that healing occurs through relationships with other human beings. Through connection. No one recovers alone. That is why we practice peer run programs. Peer relationships are effective! Today we operate several programs with skilled and experienced staff who know how to co-create these relationships. What many people call mental illness can be overcome, we have seen it, we have lived it.
In addition to our advocacy and peer services, we offer complementary social service programs all of which are “Peer Run”.
Consumers Self Help Center (CSHC) was founded in 1987 by community members who were living with psychiatric disabilities and therefore created an organization with peer-driven programs and services to assist and empower others who were also navigating through life with psychiatric disabilities, drug/alcohol addiction, and/or homelessness.
At the Wellness and Recovery Center, members are able to come in and have one meal per day. We are in need of food items to continue feeding those in need.
While at the Wellness and Recovery Center, members are able get clean clothing. Most clothing is used and donated by the staff. However, we are in need of various sized clothing for both men and women, along with new socks and under garments. Other items that are needed include raingear, blankets, hats and gloves.
Personal hygiene items are items that all of our members need to conduct personal grooming, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, combs and brushes.
Laundry services are offered at the Wellness and Recovery Center. Items needed are laundry detergent and bleach.
Shower services are offered at the Wellness and Recovery Center. Items needed are body towels, face towels, body soap and lotion.
