HopeMD- Healthcare for Victims of Violence and Abuse
14 Hours at the Emergency Room?
“Sarah” came into the SRFJC after experiencing severe violence and abuse at the hands of her husband. She arrived to the SRFJC with her children, and with significant and visible injuries, including strangulation, that required immediate medical attention.
After meeting with an SRFJC case manager and legal staff, “Sarah” went to the emergency room to receive care. She arrived at the hospital at 6pm. Due to a highly impacted healthcare system, “Sarah” and her 3 children spent the night in the emergency room until she was finally able to be seen 14 hours later at 8am the next morning, further traumatizing her.
No More Waiting for HOURS. HopeMD is Eliminating ER Wait Times
The first program of its kind in Sacramento County, the HopeMD Program eliminates barriers to vital healthcare by eliminating emergency room wait times and offering secure telehealth services to victims. Through a partnership with emergency room physicians from the region’s healthcare providers, we provide streamlined, convenient access to medical and mental health care to victims of violence and abuse.
If a victim needs medical care, a SRFJC staff will coordinate a telehealth appointment with an emergency room physician at the SRFJC’s Wellness Center. Additionally, if it is determined that the victim needs to visit the emergency room for tests and in-person care, the emergency room physician orders the tests and schedules an in-person appointment at the nearest emergency room. This allows the victim to skip the line and be seen immediately by a physician. The SRJFC will use our vehicles to transport and accompany the client to their appointment.
Your support on the Big Day of Giving will help ensure ALL medical services, including prescriptions, are provided at no cost to the victim.
