Green Light Get Outside

A nonprofit organization

Green Light Get Outside (GLGO) is a nonprofit that helps underserved youth build life and social skills through mentorship, classroom learning, and outdoor adventures. Our goal is to guide middle school students toward positive choices, strong relationships, and a deep connection with nature.

Middle school can be tough, especially for kids who have faced lots of trauma. It’s a time of big changes—new schools, peer pressure, and growing independence. Without support, many students struggle at this age. That’s why we focus on this critical stage, helping them build confidence, resilience, and healthy habits for the future.

Our flagship program, Opportunity Adventure (OA), was developed by longtime teacher Ted Wimberg. Through lessons on communication, emotions, empathy, and responsibility, students learn important life skills. Outdoor team-building activities, nature excursions, and overnight wilderness workshops provide hands-on learning, helping kids challenge themselves and apply these lessons in real life.

GLGO has expanded Opportunity Adventure beyond Mr. Wimberg's single classroom, now reaching middle schools in West Sacramento and across the Sacramento region. With the help of trained mentors, we create strong relationships that help students heal, grow, and succeed. Your support allows us to continue transforming lives through education, adventure, and mentorship.

Mission

At Green Light GO, we empower young people to unlock their full potential through a dynamic blend of classroom learning, personalized mentorship, and transformative outdoor adventures.

We achieve our Mission by partnering with schools in historically underserved communities with diverse student populations and high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged families. We collaborate with school leaders to deliver life changing learning, mentorship, and challenge that cultivates healthy communication, self-confidence, self-regulation, personal responsibility, and healing experiences in nature.

Equity Statement

At Green Light GO, we believe nature is for everyone, and we’re dedicated to ensuring people from all backgrounds can access its beauty and power. Our goal is to create welcoming spaces for everyone, especially those historically excluded from nature.

Each person’s unique experiences enrich our mission to connect young people from diverse backgrounds with themselves and nature.

Inclusivity is a core value that shapes our programs and relationships with participants and partners. By amplifying voices that have been marginalized, we co-create a more inclusive narrative around nature’s healing power. We celebrate the qualities that make each person unique, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, and cultural background.

Together, we’re building a future where everyone can experience the transformative impact of nature.
