Green Light Get Outside (GLGO) is a nonprofit that helps underserved youth build life and social skills through mentorship, classroom learning, and outdoor adventures. Our goal is to guide middle school students toward positive choices, strong relationships, and a deep connection with nature.
Middle school can be tough, especially for kids who have faced lots of trauma. It’s a time of big changes—new schools, peer pressure, and growing independence. Without support, many students struggle at this age. That’s why we focus on this critical stage, helping them build confidence, resilience, and healthy habits for the future.
Our flagship program, Opportunity Adventure (OA), was developed by longtime teacher Ted Wimberg. Through lessons on communication, emotions, empathy, and responsibility, students learn important life skills. Outdoor team-building activities, nature excursions, and overnight wilderness workshops provide hands-on learning, helping kids challenge themselves and apply these lessons in real life.
GLGO has expanded Opportunity Adventure beyond Mr. Wimberg's single classroom, now reaching middle schools in West Sacramento and across the Sacramento region. With the help of trained mentors, we create strong relationships that help students heal, grow, and succeed. Your support allows us to continue transforming lives through education, adventure, and mentorship.
