Founded more than 150 years ago by Jewish pioneers seeking peace and prosperity in a new land, the Jewish community of the Sacramento region has grown to more than 25,000 residents in a 13-county area.  The Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region was incorporated in 1948 to connect Jews locally and globally, nurture our values, enrich our traditions, and strengthen our community through education, social action, and philanthropy.

The Federation provides ways for individual Jews to participate in communal responsibility and contribute to the well-being of others.  Surviving the fires and floods of a tumultuous pioneer past, as well as the firebombing of three synagogues in 1999, we pushed forward in hopes of building a golden age for the Jews in Sacramento's Central Valley.

In 2009, after a long history with its Wyda Way property, the Federation moved its offices to Midtown Sacramento.  In 2013, we reinvested the funds from the sale of the Wyda Way property and purchased a new, permanent home at 2130 21st St., Sacramento.

We look forward to a long and prosperous future with the entire community.

Mission

The Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region is a philanthropic, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides educational, cultural, and social services and programs within the Jewish community locally and around the world.

Needs

SENIOR SERVICES: Jewish Family Service provides a significant amount of care to seniors in the community. Addressing this need most effectively involves the services of a Social Worker Service professional. These professionals address the complex case management issues, including decisions about home care, isolation, physical health, and family dynamics. Please consider supporting the complicated and growing needs of seniors.

SCHMOOZE ROOM (Senior Programming): Federation offers a senior program called Schmooze Room which took the place of Leisure League during COVID. This program allowed our senior community to connect and engage remotely during COVID. This program offered engaging talks with prominent guest speakers on a range of subjects from Jewish composers to the Jews in the gold rush era. This program is turning into a quarterly in person meeting for Sacramento Region seniors 55+. Please help support the Federation to continue this program in helping to pay for the guest speakers that are engaging for our seniors.

HOLIDAY OUTREACH BASKETS (Senior Programming): In partnership with community volunteers, the Federation facilitates the delivery of holiday outreach baskets to homebound individuals during Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah, and Passover. In addition to providing items traditionally associated with each holiday and that allows seniors to celebrate Jewish culture, this effort allows those who are homebound to enjoy the companionship of others and to build lasting connections with volunteers throughout the year. Combined, Federation delivers more than 300 holiday bags throughout the region. Please consider supporting Federation and ensuring joyful holidays for our homebound seniors.

KOSHER MEAL DELIVERY PROGRAM: Our KMD program started in 2020, during the Pandemic. Our aim was to be of service to our homebound community experiencing food insecurity. The KMD program was established to deliver hot Kosher Shabbat meals to those in the community who are homebound and vulnerable for any number of reasons, including frailty, recovering from illnesses, or dealing with short or long-term illness. KMD has become a crucial and much appreciated part of our community service, we’ve continued weekly meal deliveries to an average of 15-20 recipients. To date we’ve delivered over 2,000 meals.

The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) -- a division of the Federation.

-Educates about and advocates on behalf of issues of vital importance to the Jewish community.

- Educates and advocates on behalf of Israel and builds support for the Jewish State.

- Fights anti-Semitism and informs the non-Jewish community about Jewish issues.

- Supports Jewish students and faculty in their battle against anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda on campuses.

- Battles discrimination in all forms and builds relationships with the greater Sacramento community.

- Represents the Sacramento Jewish community at civic and interfaith events.

Please support the work of the JCRC and our community at large by making a gift to the Federation.

PJ (as in "pajamas") LIBRARY is a national Jewish literacy program funded by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and locally by The Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region. Children from 6 months through 8 years of age are eligible to receive free Jewish books about history, traditions, and heroes delivered monthly to their home. Currently, there are 1,200 chidren in the Sacramento region who receive free, monthly PJ Library books.

PJ Library Sacramento is more than just books though. It is a vehicle through which young Jewish families can connect to the community and to each other. Throughout the year we gather for special programs where families can make new friends, celebrate Jewish holidays, and have fun!

Please support Jewish literacy and community-building efforts through PJ Library.
