$12,000 Goal

Founded in 1981, PRO Youth & Families inspires, educates, and mobilizes young people to build a healthier future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Our three core areas of work—youth wellness, youth voice, and collective impact—uplift youth as leaders and change agents, empowering them to create meaningful impact in their communities.

Youth Wellness: Through holistic, comprehensive direct service youth development programs, we foster mental wellness—integrating substance misuse prevention, social-emotional skill development, and leadership training.

Civic Engagement and Advocacy: Our Civic Engagement and Advocacy programs empower young people to become advocates for themselves, their peers, and their communities. Our programs educate youth on effective strategies for enacting and advocating systemic change. We inspire youth to believe that making a difference is achievable at any age!

Collective Impact: The Youth & Family Collective (YFC) develops collaborative community projects to support youth and the community nonprofits who serve them. The YFC has partnered with over 70 organizations in Greater Sacramento, and distributed more than $6 million in youth project stipends and administrative funding for community-based organizations. Using shared tools and infrastructure, the YFC supports the capacity of nonprofits to help young people to learn, earn, and thrive.

Last year, PRO served 3,800 youth in our region at 79 schools and community sites. This year, we are on track to exceed that number, reaching over 4,250 youth in 91 schools and community sites.

Your investment in our youth ensures we can continue our mission of amplifying the voices and affirming the experiences of young people in our region. They are not just our future, they are our present. Hope rises with your support!

Mission

Mission and Vision: Our mission is to inspire, educate, and mobilize young people to build a healthier future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

We envision a future where all young people recognize their value, have access to support and opportunities, and believe in their power to be change-agents in their community.

Needs

Young people in the Sacramento region are facing unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and social disconnection. According to the California Healthy Kids Survey, 41% of Sacramento 11th graders report experiencing chronic sadness and hopelessness, with many struggling to develop the coping skills necessary to navigate challenges in school, relationships, and daily life. Without adequate social-emotional wellness support, youth are at greater risk for academic struggles, substance use, and mental health crises.

Despite the clear need, access to comprehensive social-emotional learning (SEL) and wellness programs remains limited. Schools and community organizations often lack the resources, staffing, and funding to provide consistent, high-quality support that fosters self-awareness, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and resilience. Additionally, systemic inequities in mental health services disproportionately impact marginalized youth, making it even more difficult for them to access the support they need.

Investing in social-emotional wellness and skill-building programs is essential to fostering healthier, more connected, and empowered young people. Research shows that when youth have access to SEL-based support, they demonstrate improved emotional well-being, stronger relationships, and greater academic success. By expanding access to peer-driven, healing-centered, and culturally responsive programs, we can equip youth with the tools to navigate challenges, build meaningful connections, and thrive as leaders in their communities.

Equity Statement

PRO Youth & Families commits to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the programs we run, the communities we serve, and within our organization:

- We commit to providing opportunities for continuous learning and growth for our staff and leadership on the history and impact of racism, white supremacy, systemic oppression and cultural competence in order to create a culture of accountability within our organization.

- We commit to the continuous creation of sustainable opportunities to empower youth of color to leverage and advocate for policy changes that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

- We commit to hiring staff, leadership and board of directors of racial and ethnic diversity to better represent the populations we seek to serve.

- We commit to using PRO’s resources to leverage the capacity of organizations and leaders that represent and address the needs of disenfranchised and vulnerable populations.

- We commit to not be complicit to and profit from the systems that perpetuate racial inequality.

We remain steadfast and vigilant in our commitments. Our ethics of action and dedication to social justice will place us on the right side of history. The investment we make in the youth we serve and the communities we impact will result in a lasting legacy of positive change.
