The Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company based in Davis, California, with programs that reach throughout the Yolo-Sacramento area. Since its first concert in spring 1985, PTDT has presented both fall and spring concerts each year, premiering new works and maintaining repertory for over 39 seasons under the direction of Pamela Trokanski. However, PTDT is much more than a traditional dance company... Our commitment to the belief that dance is not only an art form but also an important tool for wellness, academic success, and building thriving communities, is supported by the multiple community outreach projects that we produce:
PTDT provides free classes for people in the Yolo-Sacramento area with Parkinson's, and their caregivers, through our Dance for Parkinson's program; free classes for people 65 and older through our Second Wind program; produces collaborative community performances every year with the annual Davis Dance Project; and runs a week-long summer camp for school age children that uses movement and the visual arts as a tools for academic enrichment in reading and writing with Moving Words; The Duet of Writing & Dance. And this year we have begun a dance scholarship program, providing opportunities for community members for whom dance training may not fit in the family budget.
PTDT is unique among dance companies... It has four divisions:
1. The Pamela Trokanski Dance Theater began in 1985 and is composed of dancers whose primary technical training is in contemporary/modern.
2. The Third Stage began in 1994 and is Northern California's only multi-generational contemporary dance company with dancers often ranging in age from 8 to 80+.
3. The Apprentice Company began in 2009 as a way to train dancers with a goal of working towards the higher demands of technique and performance required by the main company and to give younger, serious, dancers a pre-professional experience.
4. The Light Ballet Company began in 2019, allowing us to both incorporate contemporary ballet into our concert programming, and provide a training option that is not strictly classical.
