Sacramento Area Very Inspirational People Games (VIP) is a dedicated and impactful organization committed to providing opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in competitive athletic, social, and recreational activities.
VIP, established in 2002 by Special Olympic athletes and their parents and coaches, is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We supplement Special Olympics tournaments by providing additional opportunities for social engagement for developmentally disabled athletes to compete in a safe, inclusive, and constructive environment.
We hold six sporting tournaments yearly, including soccer, floor hockey, basketball, track and field, bocce, and swimming. Since our founding, participation in VIP tournaments has grown. Special Olympics teams come from all over Northern California, representing Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, Tuolumne, Yolo, Nevada, El Dorado, Placer, and Sacramento counties.
VIP serves children and adults with all types of developmental disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Autism, and intellectual disabilities. We serve over 1,000 athletes and coordinate over 600 volunteers yearly to put on our six tournaments. 100% of the money raised is reinvested into our programs, providing individuals with intellectual disabilities opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and personal growth. VIP promotes a sense of belonging and enhances the overall well-being of our participants.
VIP incurs significant expenses in hosting these tournaments, including facility fees, rental equipment, sporting equipment, athletic awards, and lunches for athletes and volunteers. Every year, we expand the number of athletes we serve and need outside support to offset tournament costs. Please consider supporting and partnering with our organization to create a lasting and meaningful impact in our community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
