At The Sacramento Kindness Campaign our mission is simple, spreading kindness to those who need it most. We do this through direct one-on-one services and collaborative initiatives with our partners. Our aim in every step is to promote human dignity, provide vital support, and address systemic barriers to equity and stability for families in crisis, experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We are here to safeguard the rights and well-being of those in need while fostering meaningful and sustainable change.

We succeed by partnering with other community organizations with shared values and goals to create a safety-net that does not allow any need to slip through, no matter how great or small. We often find it’s an insignificant-seeming barrier that stands between a family and sustainability; things like a $35 application fee to get the ID required to file taxes and get a stimulus check, which can then be used for a deposit, or a $55 apartment application fee, $200 to fill a shortfall in a housing deposit, small DMV fees and fines to get or keep the family car safe, legal, and ready to commute to work. This is where the Sacramento Kindness Campaign can help.

We can provide up to six nights of safe shelter in a hotel. Removing the stress, anxiety, and fear of figuring out where to sleep, and what to eat for the next week gives our clients the ability to catch their breath, and form a plan beyond their immediate pressing needs. One of our compassionate case-workers meets with the family to assess their needs and to help them create their unique, individualized Road Map to sustainability. We then work to connect them to the appropriate county agencies and community organizations, scaffolding them in layers of support as they move toward becoming self-sufficient and sustainable. We stay with them as they navigate this road map, working to fill in any remaining gaps. We have been incredibly successful with this model, using our compassionate listening protocol to both identify the pathways (in every case so far), and help the family into permanent housing (in most cases).

Beginning in 2016, through a network of wonderful volunteers, and a wide range of partnerships, we have provided transportation, translation services, clothing, job opportunities, literacy training, job seeking, skill-building, furniture, meals, friendship, safety from harm, guidance, life skills training, mentoring, maternity care, child care, family connections and community. It is truly our privilege to serve this community.

Our current focus is our Kids In Crisis program. Our partners at Sacramento Unified School District connect us with families experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We provide emergency housing through hotel vouchers, comprehensive case management, cash assistance via Visa gift cards, and other flexible, strengths-based services to prevent and reduce youth homelessness in our community, and to help these young people stay in school on their way to graduating.

In 2025, with the support of our patrons, donors, and grantors, working with our volunteers, and partners, we will continue using our expertise and our unique, compassionate approach to helping vulnerable youth and families in Sacramento find measurable, transformative outcomes.

With gratitude, thank you!
