  • The  purpose of the Sacramento Storytellers Guild (Guild) is to promote the art of  storytelling through performance, education and community interaction.  Storytelling is an age-old art, and was originally the principle means for people and cultures to impart news, values  and knowledge.  Storytelling can  project mental, descriptive and emotional images using the spoken word, signs and gesture. The  interaction between the storyteller and listener makes storytelling a great tool for  for educational, literary, business and many other uses.  
  • The Guild provides support and exposure to storytellers and poets through staging of storytelling events and festivals, through training and informational programs, and through referrals.   The Guild  acts as a clearinghouse for sharing of  information on local, regional, and national storytelling events.  The Guild also maintains a current list of storytellers available to the community.

Needs

Our immediate needs are better visual recording and sound systems. If we were able to livestream our annual festival, we could potentially reach hundreds of potential additional audience who are unable to physically travel to Sacramento. In turn, with an increased audience, we could enhance or expand the festival. We currently are limited to a computer camera and borrow a microphone from the Sacramento Poetry Center.

We currently use the Sacramento Poetry Center for our monthly program. Some months, that facility is near capacity. We may soon need a larger and more modern facility for our monthly programs.

Equity Statement

At this time we have very little equity. We have roughly $500 for operating costs in general, and $2,300 for festival costs. Both are well short of what we need to improve production and expand membership.
