WellSpace Health is a non-profit community health system that provides comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services to underserved people and neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento region.
WellSpace Health CRISIS System
Seeking long term solutions to the Sacramento region's behavioral health crisis, WellSpace Health has developed a continuum of health and behavioral health services that form the foundation of the Crisis Response Intervention Synchronizing Integrated Services (CRISIS) system in the greater Sacramento region. The model follows the SAMHSA National Best Practice for Behavioral Health Crisis Care, uniting typically disparate aspects of care to provide underserved people with high quality comprehensive care across the greater Sacramento region. Specifically, the model unites a system of 26 Federally Qualified Health Centers, the region’s largest Medi-Cal Behavioral Health System, and California’s second largest 988 Crisis Center.
988 Crisis Center
Since 1953 WellSpace Health has operated the region’s Suicide Prevention Hotline and today is California’s second largest 988 Crisis Center, answering 92,000 talk/text/chats made 24/7 to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and local hotlines. 95% of engagements with the WellSpace Health 988 Crisis Center are resolved within the engagement and do not require immediate response interventions. WellSpace Health is accredited by both the American Association of Suicidology and The Joint Commission for Behavioral Health and designated by SAMHSA as a Crisis Center.
Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health (CRBH aka “Crib”)
The WellSpace Health Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health (CRBH) is an innovative behavioral health program providing patients with a short-term (up to 24 hours) opportunity to voluntarily recuperate from a behavioral health crisis (substance infoxication, mental health crisis or both) in a safe and dignified manner while engaging them with wraparound supportive services and facilitating continuity of care following their CRBH session. CRBH is staffed 24/7 by healthcare professionals to provide medical monitoring, counseling, and connections to supportive services. Patients are transported to and from CRBH by authorized referral partners and by WellSpace Health’s Mobile Response Team.
Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) WellSpace Health was specially designated as Sacramento County’s first CCBHC in 2022 to provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use services, in addition to those provided as a Federally Qualified Health Center. The CCBHC model provides a vehicle to address decades-old challenges that have led to a crisis in providing access to mental health and substance use care.
