Yolo County SPCA

A nonprofit organization

The Yolo County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Yolo County SPCA is a non-profit foster-home based animal rescue organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in need in Yolo County and surrounding communities.  We are not affiliated with any other local or national animal welfare organization, and rely on community donations and aid to help us provide the necessary care for animals in our foster home system.  The Yolo County SPCA is overseen by a volunteer board of directors and is supported by a network of volunteer foster homes to help us rescue the many homeless cats, kittens, dogs and puppies in our community.

Our foster home program enables us to care for animals that need love, socialization, and structure in order to become adoptable. Our caregivers nurture and support many homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens; some of which are sick, injured, or underage, until they are ready to be adopted to new homes. We provide food, medications, veterinary care and guidance; volunteers open their homes to these animals sometimes for very long periods of time. With the support of our foster homes and other volunteers, we adopted 231 cats and kittens and 88 dogs and puppies into permanent, loving homes in 2024.  For over 30 years, the Yolo County SPCA has operated a thrift store in downtown Davis. The proceeds from our store and other monetary donations and grants provide funding for our programs.

Wesley and Windsor were two week old kittens rescued by a fire crew that put out a large brush fire in Woodland.

Giving Activity

Mission

To continuously improve the welfare of animals in the community through programs that promote the adoption of homeless animals into permanent and loving homes, provide humane education, advocate for spaying/neutering companion animals, and support trapping, altering and return of community cats. Thanks to the contributions of our members, volunteers, and the public, we can create a more humane tomorrow.

Needs

Financial support for the basic veterinary care we provide to each animal in our care - spay/neuter surgeries, microchips, vaccinations, medications, tests.

Financial assistance for our Angel Fund to support additional veterinary needs beyond basic care.

Financial funding for the foster home animal care supplies that we purchase to support our foster homes and the care they provide our animals: food, litter, bedding, crates, pens, leashes, collars, and toys.

Financial donations for our community cat TNR program.

Volunteers to become foster parents and open their homes to foster animals in our care.

Donations of clothing and household items to our thrift store are always needed and welcome.

Equity Statement

The Yolo County SPCA is an animal welfare and rescue organization. We are committed to creating a more humane tomorrow not only for animals but for all in our community. We advocate for equality, equity and diversity in all of our programs.
