The Friends of the Granite Bay Library was formed in 1990 and received its tax-exempt exempt status in 1995. The first goal of the organization was to bring a library facility to the Granite Bay community. The existing Granite Bay Branch was a small, rented storefront in a local shopping center. Working closely with the Placer County Library System, "The Friends" raised $50,000 to start the project. Land was purchased and an Architect was hired, and our new library opened on May 20, 1995. Over the years we have endeavored to engage the community in supporting the Granite Bay Library to foster a lifelong love of reading, providing an environment for learning, creating, and developing literary skills.
Our guiding principles are:
•Being the voice and the pulse of our community and communicating its needs to the library.
•Building alliances and reaching out to our local schools, service nonprofits, businesses, and county representatives to help bring the community together.
•Building a greater realization of the importance of the library to the community.
•Sharing a mutual enthusiasm for reading, literacy and books in general.
•Encouraging the use of the library facilities, resources and services by all community members.
The mission of the Friends of the Granite Bay Library is to be an advocate of our Library, raising funds and awareness, reflecting the needs of our community.
Funds to purchase Library Materials: Books, magazines, DVDs, audio books, eBooks.
Our target is to donate $10,000 per year to the Granite Bay Library to support the materials needs.
Funds to support Children's Programming by providing reading centered events and encouragement for lifelong reading.
To help us make a difference in the community requires individuals with diverse talents and skills. We are always looking for volunteers who are passionate about reading and literacy. We welcome new ideas and energy to our board.
We welcome creative and supportive volunteers willing to be Board Members, Committee Chairs Committee Members, and Worker Bees.
Funds to cover our limited operating expenses.
