Computers have changed the way we interact with the world. In today's technologically driven society, access to internet and computer technology opens the door to unlimited opportunities. From education, research, communication with family and friends, and everything in between, we all rely on technology more than ever before. Still, even as computers and internet access become increasingly commonplace, a "digital divide" continues to separate our communities.
Our mission at iDream - The Mac Give Project is to help close the digital divide. We are a nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation that acquires, refurbishes and enhances used Apple devices and computers and donates them to individuals in need. We also recruit and train volunteers who help provide technical and educational support for our recipients. Through our efforts we aim to elevate our communities and provide everyone with the same opportunity to succeed in our modern world.
This year we have assisted two local nonprofits with their computer needs: Empower Yolo and Arab Community Center for Integration Services. Every quarter we offer opportunities for 2 students who would like to volunteer with our organization. They are invaluable to our organization's efforts.
Our headline picture above was taken at a gifting session at USBank in Davis. A young Spanish speaking family received an Apple MacBook and 90 minutes of training. Our translator John, far left, assisted throughout the training session.
