The original Kiwanis Family House was opened in June, 1984. The original facility opened with seven bedrooms and one community kitchen. As demand for our services grew, the facility was expanded by an additional six bedrooms in 1989. Kiwanis replaced the original House with a new 32-bedroom facility on the UC Davis Medical Center campus in 2006. In addition to housing families within five minutes of their hospitalized loved ones, the Kiwanis Family House offers emergency food supplies and clothing to needy families.
The facility serves as a 'home away from home' for those families who must travel for their critical medical services. For them, the Kiwanis Family House becomes their second home for a few days, weeks, or even months while their loved ones, child or adult, are nursed back to health. The Kiwanis Family House offers inexpensive family accommodations, with individual bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchens, bathrooms, laundry facilities, free internet access, free parking, spiritual counseling, and shuttle bus service to the hospitals.
