Welcome to MOSAIC Children’s Museum, where curiosity leads to discovery! We are proud to share our journey with you and invite you to join us in building a vibrant learning environment for the children of Yolo County and beyond. MOSAIC stands for Museum of Science, Art, Imagination, and Creativity.

Though MOSAIC opened its first physical location in December 2023, it was founded in 2017 by three dedicated grandparents who wanted to create a place for young families to connect, play, and learn together. After seven years of mobile pop-ups, MOSAIC finally found a permanent home in downtown Woodland at 120 Main Street, Suite D. We’re proud to be Yolo County’s first children’s museum, accessible to families right in the heart of the community. In just one year, we’ve welcomed over 6,000 visitors and are now in the running for best museum in Yolo County! As a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, we are dedicated to providing a dynamic, hands-on environment where children aged 1 to 8 can learn through creative activities focusing on science, art, imagination, and exploration.

The museum continues to be a place to explore and learn while preparing young minds for the world they will soon inherit. Our exhibits are thematic representations of real world spaces within Woodland and Yolo County. Our goal is to create a place without barriers that represents our City and County’s diverse community, history and culture.

The Farm, Farmer's Market and Food Truck provide a creative environment where children and their adults learn how our food gets onto our plates (farm to fork) from our life-sized barn (chickens and cow included), interactive garden plot and market, down to our “Munchies” food truck experience. The Opera Stage allows children to explore all different personas while building their self confidence while entertaining their caregivers on an actual stage! .

At MOSAIC, technology is presented in tangible ways where children can explore and interact through play. We do live in a world full of technology which can be a wonderful thing, but we know that many devices can cause distractions and can interfere in the natural process of real life person-to-person interactions which is critical for a child's developing brain. Because of this, we feel it’s important to incorporate technology in a way that will encourage little ones and their caregivers to explore and learn together through real life experiences. The virtual reality sandbox draws a lot of attention from both children and adults. A topographical map is projected onto sand and adjusts as the sand is pushed and moved through hand (or dinosaur) manipulation. Rivers can be created as one digs deeper in the sand or volcanos appear as sand is piled high and built up. Another exhibit where technology is integrated is at the Mission Control Center. This interactive and volunteer made exhibit is modeled after NASA's very own Mission Control. Children can type, make phone calls, turn dials, push buttons and manipulate levers all in support of helping those astronauts blast off into Outer Space!!

Mission

MOSAIC stands for Museum of Science, Art, Imagination, and Creativity. Our mission is to inspire and empower children ages 1 to 8 through hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love of learning. Our vision is to be a lifelong community resource, shaping the future of Woodland by nurturing a curious, engaged young community.

Needs

Unrestricted funding is needed for exhibits, programming, and supplies, as well as technology, community outreach and marketing. We strive for excellence in our exhibits and the use of resources. Three main goals for this year are exhibit upgrades, community collaboration programs and looking to the future, a larger facility.

EXHIBITS: The "dynamic rocket" will upgrade our mission control center. Kids will explore a gadget filled lower level of the rocket with switches and buttons, then zoom down the second level slide combining imaginative play, sensory fun and gross motor skill development.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Our community outreach has taken our mobile exhibits to farmers markets, science nights, festivals, Woodland concert nights at Heritage Plaza, First Friday Art Walk, corporate picnics, and other neighborhood activities. The exhibits include big blue blocks, the cascade water table, and a wind tunnel. Art and science projects compliment the theme of each event.

This year collaboration with local organizations and individuals will bring STEM and sensory activities to the museum that spark curiosity and creativity, fostering learning and connection to the diverse microcosm that is Yolo County. Think geologists, beekeepers and librarians!

A NEW HOME: While we love our current site we'd love to offer the community a larger space with even more hands-on experiences to explore and enjoy together.

VOLUNTEERS: We encourage community members to join us as volunteers. Opportunities include museum associates that interact with our visitors, behind the scenes designing and building new exhibits, or administrative support such as managing social media or assisting with the Treasurer with bookkeeping duties.

Equity Statement

Celebrating our differences and what makes each of us unique is crucial to the mission and vision of MOSAIC. We are committed to celebrating and learning about the wide variety of cultures that are with in Yolo County and beyond. We are committed to treating all people equally and with respect. We are committed to being a safe place for children and their families to be their truest selves while they explore, grow and learn.
