Having just completed its 34th season, the River City Theatre Company (RCTC) started in 1990 when a well known dance choreographer, Ron Cisneros, and Co-Founder parent, John Iniguez, came together to create an organization that would allow children ages 6-18, from 1st through 12th grades to perform classical and new musicals without having to audition. What a great concept! Join and you could be on stage!

What started as a small organization has become a well-known sustainable theatre organization in Sacramento that continues today. RCTC performs at least two productions each year, or at least 20 performances, for audiences close to 3,000 annually.

In November 2024, RCTC opened its season performing two theatrical musicals almost simultaneously--Chicago the Musical for high school level kids, and Disney's Aladdin Jr. for younger kids.  In Spring 2025 (April 2025), RCTC will successfully perform Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief. It will be a fabulous production. RCTC also performed school field trips performances to public and private school students of each production--four for Disney's Aladdin Jr., and four school field trip performances for Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief. Both productions were at the Natomas High School auditorium.

RCTC is thrilled to continue serving the theatrical needs and desires of young people in the four-county Sacramento metropolitan area of Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Yolo counties.

Mission

RCTC provides an inclusive educational approach to the art and production of live musical theatre for ALL youth. Our mission is to empower youth with the qualities and passion to develop confidence and self-esteem and life skills to become extraordinary leaders. We offer opportunities to learn all aspects of musical theatre. We provide a compassionate, positive and supportive workshop environment committed to integrity.

Needs

RCTC's primary need is unrestricted funds.

Scholarship monies to fund the registration cost of under-privileged and financially challenged cast members is always needed and desired. RCTC charges a registration fee of $375 per each cast member, per each production workshop. This fee covers all operating costs of the production, including rights to put on the show, theater and rehearsal space rental, set and costume production, sound and lighting equipment maintenance, etc. RCTC strives to provide 10% of the total number of cast members with a registration waiver or "scholarship" based on financial need, by having a cast member complete a scholarship application form.

Lighting equipment, especially theatre quality specialty light bulbs and lighting fixtures. These type of light bulbs for professional stage use can cost up to $100 each and up. Lighting fixtures, such as the latest LED advanced lighting systems can costs thousands of dollars each. RCTC would like to purchase three LED lighting fixtures at $2,500 each.

Sound equipment also needs to be constantly updated. Microphones and sound systems use high levels of technology with sophisticated channel frequencies. Purchasing high quality microphone packs can cost up to $1,000 each.

Equity Statement

River City Theatre Company was founded on our dedication to excellence which is derived directly from our diversity, equity and inclusion.

Our commitment is to be actively leading the way, creating a safe and healthy space for all youth to learn, grow and gain the skills that will carry them through the rest of their lives.

We offer a culturally and intellectually rich learning environment.

We are proud to develop solutions that positively impact our community and the greater Sacramento region.

We are a community who nurture and benefit from a diverse group of families.
