$20,000 Goal

The Sacramento Fine Arts Center (Sac Arts Center) was founded in 1986 when five regional art clubs joined together to find a place where they could meet and display their art.  The clubs found their new home in the La Sierra Community Center located in Carmichael.  Two of the original clubs, Northern California Arts (NCA), and Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons (WASH) continue to constitute an invaluable part of the Center's life and programs.

Sacramento Fine Arts Center hosts over two dozen juried, group, and solo exhibitions per year.  Multiple classes and open studio sessions are held daily. In addition, the center hosts several workshops from national artists throughout the year.  A gift shop provides opportunities for artists to sell their unique creations and for the community to purchase original art at reasonable prices.

Our vision is to maximize the synergy of artists of all ages, cultures, abilities, experience, and genres working together, and to expand the appreciation of art in our community.

Needs

Sac Arts annual lease is $35,000. Funds raised from Big Day of Giving directly support our facility. General operation and much-needed facility maintenance. Funding need: $40,000.

Equity Statement

Following from the mission of the Sacramento Fine Art Center, it is clear that honoring and supporting the cultural life of our community includes all people, their cultures and their art. Artists are in a special position in their creative processes to inspire and to demonstrate the ways in which social injustice and inequity impact the lives of those who have experienced these historic discrimination-based practices.

Sac Arts commits itself to inclusion of all artists and the promotion of racial equity through its activities. This includes policies and procedures, show proposals, art classes and workshop presentations, Board governance, and other programs regularly presented by Sac Arts. This includes elimination of cultural messages and attitudes that have historically created adverse outcomes for communities of color and others who have experienced historic bias. Striving for equity means fair treatment, access and encouragement of all artists by creating a welcoming and encouraging environment in which any individual or group can feel welcome, respected and valued as an individual with unique history and potential for artistic development and appreciation.
