The Sacramento Housing Alliance (SHA) is a broad coalition of housing developers, housing and homeless advocacy organizations, non-profit service providers, community groups, individuals and others dedicated to improving the housing options of lower income families and individuals.  SHA formed in 1989 and is incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.  SHA works with community groups, business leaders and elected officials to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing and improved sustainability and maintenance of existing housing.  We also monitor the funding and policy decisions of local redevelopment agencies and governments in order to effect positive change.  The Housing Alliance seeks to help the community keep informed on important issues related to housing and the intersection of health and housing.  The vision of SHA extends beyond affordable housing to a vision of opportunity-rich communities, where all people in the Sacramento region are supported by equitable public policies and practices.

Mission

Sacramento Housing Alliance advocates for safe, stable, accessible, and affordable homes in the Sacramento region. SHA builds healthy communities through education, leadership, and policy change.

Our Vision:

Everyone in the Sacramento region has a home in a healthy and inclusive neighborhood.

Guiding Principles:

Housing is a human right.

The solution to homelessness is homes.

Lasting change requires coalition building, community collaboration, and public education.

Policymakers must address systemic racism and the social and economic structures that deepen neighborhood inequity.

Appropriate investment broadens access to housing, safe communities, healthy food, good jobs, and community self-determination.

Needs

At Sacramento Housing Alliance (SHA), we believe housing is a human right. According to the California Budget and Policy Center, 1 in 5 households face severe housing cost burdens, spending more than half of their income toward housing expenses. This means that many of our community members are not living a full and healthy life. People are struggling to survive. Joining the movement for fair and affordable housing means that we all win. For over 30 years, SHA has fought for housing rights and economic justice. Your investment in our work will activate policy change and support affordable housing. Furthermore, it is a commitment that we collectively want to build a future where everyone has access to health, a home, and foster a community of belonging.

To deal with the current crisis and to begin to build the capacity of our organization for the future, our needs are:

Organizational or Individual memberships - Our members reflect a diverse broad base both locally and statewide. They are engaged in efforts throughout the region and at the state and national level educating and advocating for progressive affordable housing and systemic racial equity policies.

We cannot do this work without a broad base of members, joining us to help do this critical work. Our members are concerned individuals and organizations who want to ensure that every single individual in our community has a place to call home.

Donations or Monthly Donors - William Byron Rumford Monthly Donor Circle. Giving monthly provides ongoing support to our racial and social justice work focused on repairing the long history of housing discrimination.
