Restoring Dignity Through Connection: Our Vision for the Future

At the St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council, we believe that every individual deserves a foundation of stability, safety, and respect. Our mission is built on the understanding that poverty is not just a lack of resources, but a lack of support. We meet our neighbors exactly where they are—bringing hope directly to their doorsteps.

The Heart of Our Mission: The Home Visit

The defining feature of our service is the Home Visit. Through our network of Regional Conferences, volunteers provide unique person-to-person support by entering the homes of those in need. This isn't just about delivering a check or a bag of groceries; it is about building a relationship.

By meeting neighbors in their own environment, we listen to their stories and hold them in high esteem, ensuring that our aid—whether it is utility assistance, food from our pantries, or furniture for a new start—is delivered with the utmost dignity and compassion.

At the heart of every program we lead is the spirit of the Home Visit: a commitment to meeting our neighbors where they are, centering the individual, and ensuring every service is delivered with unwavering respect and dignity.

Our Special Works: A Comprehensive Safety Net

While our volunteers provide the connection, our "Special Works" programs provide the specialized infrastructure needed to move families from crisis to stability:

  • Transitions to Permanent Housing: We provide a critical bridge to housing security. By assisting with eviction prevention and move-in expenses (such as security deposits), we help families secure and maintain a permanent place to call home.

  • The Exodus Project: We offer essential reentry support and mentorship for those transitioning out of incarceration, providing the tools and personal encouragement necessary to break the cycle and find a fresh start.

  • Listos Disaster Preparedness: Resilience is key to stability. We empower our most vulnerable neighbors with the training and resources to stay safe during emergencies, ensuring no one is left behind during a disaster.

  • The Thrift Store: Our retail space serves as a hub of sustainability and a vital resource for the community. Beyond keeping goods out of landfills, the store provides job-skills training and ensures that families in crisis have access to quality clothing and household essentials in a professional, welcoming environment.

Join Our Mission: Moving Hope Forward

This year, we are raising $120,000 to fund two critical transportation needs that will directly expand our reach across Northern California. Your support provides the wheels for our mission.

🚛 The Thrift Store: A Vehicle for Opportunity

The SVdP Thrift Store is more than retail—it is a hub for dignity, job training, and second chances. As the financial backbone of our council, the store funds the very programs that keep our neighbors housed and fed.

  • The Need: We currently rely on costly vehicle leases to move inventory.

  • The Impact: Purchasing a dedicated Box Truck ensures long-term financial sustainability. By eliminating leasing fees, we redirect vital funds back into the community to prevent evictions and provide emergency food.

🚐 Disaster Services: Reaching the Unreachable

Our Disaster Team has helped survivors across Northern California access millions in recovery aid. Now, we are shifting from reacting to preparing—building resilient communities in Sacramento, Amador, El Dorado, and Placer Counties.

  • The Need: High-risk, rural areas are often the hardest to reach with traditional vehicles.

  • The Impact: A new Sprinter Van will serve as a Mobile Resource Center. This allows our team to deliver preparedness training, rapid-response equipment when disasters strike, and face-to-face case management directly to underserved neighbors, ensuring no one is left behind when a crisis hits.
