The SNOW Sports Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich winter sports and Olympic history of the Sierra Nevada region. It celebrates over 200 years of remarkable stories, including the legendary 1960 Winter Olympics, through exhibits, artifacts, and engaging programs designed to inspire future generations.
While we work with Placer County to establish a permanent, architecturally significant home at the entrance to Olympic Valley, visitors can experience our interim museum at the Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City. Opened in Fall 2023, this space offers a captivating glimpse into the region’s winter sports heritage and features highlights like:
Local Ski Pioneers: Stories and photos from the 1700s to the 1930s, showcasing skiing’s evolution in the Sierra.
The 1960 Winter Olympics: Rare artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia from this historic event.
Champions of Tahoe: Exhibits honoring local Olympians and legendary athletes.
The interim museum is open daily, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and available for community events and gatherings.
