If you have questions, please contact the Big Day of Giving team at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, bdog@sacregcf.org.

Step 1:

Confirm Eligibility

To participate in Big Day of Giving, your organization must have a profile on GivingEdge, this website from the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.

If your nonprofit is eligible and has a GivingEdge profile, go to step two.

If your organization is eligible for a GivingEdge profile, but doesn't yet have one, request a profile. Note that profile requests may take a few days for our team to process.

To have a profile on GivingEdge, your nonprofit must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization in good standing with the IRS, the California Secretary of State, the California Department of Justice, and the Franchise Tax Board. ⚠️ Check your nonprofit's standing with these entities. ⚠️
  • Be headquartered or have a branch in the four-county capital region of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, or Yolo counties, and provide services to one or more of these counties. If your organization is physically located outside of this region, but a significant amount of your work takes place in the four-county area, you are eligible to participate and you will be asked to provide additional documentation.
  • Not currently under any federal, state, or local investigation or regulatory-related inquiry (including violations and citations) related to any aspect of your operation.
  • Nonprofit organizations that currently have a fund at Sacramento Region Community Foundation are eligible to participate regardless of location. All other criteria listed above must be met.

We welcome fiscally sponsored organizations, as long as the sponsoring nonprofit meets these criteria. If you’re not sure about your eligibility, reach out to us at bdog@sacregcf.org

We do not accept profiles requests from the following organizations (barring exceptions stated):

  • Schools, houses of worship, or government organizations, except we will accept organizations or foundations that are fiscally sponsored by a school or church. Further, organizations or foundations created to support churches, schools, or government organizations are eligible if eligibility requirements are met.
  • School groups such as PTAs, sport teams, band boosters, or other school affinity groups; Private foundations (filing a 990PF); Supporting organizations (charity status of 509(a)(3)); Public safety organizations (charity status of 509(a)(4)).
  • Organizations with a status of "mutual benefit" with the California Department of Justice.

Common Registration Questions

If you ran your organization's Big Day of Giving campaign in 2024, this year's giving day will look familiar! You can expect the same great fundraising, training, and community-building opportunities. New this year, your donors can pay using Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay and opt to cover the entirety of the 5.2% transaction fee. Also, GivingEdge disbursements are now may via ACH/check from Ramp rather than Deluxe eChecks.

Coordinated by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Big Day of Giving is a day-long celebration of supporting the nonprofits that serve El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties—and that are listed right on this website! Since the first giving day in 2013, more than 50,000 donors have helped hundreds of local nonprofits raise over $100 million through the effort. The organizations that participate also benefit from year-round capacity-building opportunities. The next Big Day of Giving is Thursday, May 1, 2025.

There are many benefits to participating! Participating in Big Day of Giving offers opportunities for your organization to connect with current donors and, through your profile on this website, engage new ones at a time when nonprofits are front-and-center in our region; build your organization’s ability to serve our community by participating in trainings to strengthen your team's capacity and skills; and collaborate with staff and volunteers from other local organizations to grow an inclusive, collaborative nonprofit sector.

Plus, your nonprofit's profile on GivingEdge gives your organization an "edge" in educating our community on the impact you make, offers donors the option to support your work by making gifts, and provides you access to top-of-the-line donor engagement tools and functionality — year-round!

No. Only nonprofits with GivingEdge profiles during the giving window are participants of Big Day of Giving. Big Day of Giving is a program of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which owns the trademark and protects the investment that participating nonprofits and their supporters have made in the program's success by asking organizations that are not participants to refrain from implying otherwise. While such use may not be ill-intended, it causes confusion and dilutes the event's impact. Thank you for your understanding.

Once you complete the four steps above — including submitting your initial GivingEdge profile — keep an eye on your email for registration confirmation or questions from our team. You can also reference the status bar on your nonprofit's GivingEdge dashboard. Here's what the statuses mean:

Register now/Registration incomplete: Your organization is not yet registered and needs to take action before Friday, February 7.

Registration pending: Your profile is in the queue to be reviewed by our GivingEdge team. You can continue to edit it, if you wish, but no further action is required immediately.

Registered: Your organization has completed all of the required steps and is fully registered for Big Day of Giving! 🎉

If your nonprofit already has a GivingEdge profile, one of its administrators can give you access by navigating to Settings > Admins in the nonprofit dashboard. If there are no active administrators on the profile, please email bdog@sacregcf.org with your organization's full name, GivingEdge profile URL, and a brief explanation of the circumstances. We can get you set up with access.

When you register for Big Day of Giving, your nonprofit gains access to:

  • GivingEdge, this year-round giving platform where you can create your nonprofit's profile, manage donations, and track progress in real-time.
  • Workshops and webinars to help your organization with campaign strategy, donor engagement, marketing, and best practices for maximizing your Big Day of Giving success.
  • Participation in prize challenges which can boost your donors' gifts to your cause and inspire supporters to give!
  • Amplification of the nonprofit sector as part of a regional marketing campaign that motivates your neighbors to give.
  • Data you can use for future engagement and stewardship, with privacy considerations in place.
  • Assistance with technical issues and other questions related to your profile, processing donations, or accessing donor data.
  • Opportunities to connect with fellow nonprofit staff and volunteers at casual peer-learning sessions and networking events.

When you participate in Big Day of Giving, you are required to create a GivingEdge profile. Your Big Day of Giving profile and your GivingEdge profile are one and the same! After Big Day of Giving, your GivingEdge profile remains live on the website and can be accessed by visitors.

Among the few other GivingEdge eligibility requirements, your organization must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization in good standing with the IRS, the California Secretary of State, the California Department of Justice, and the Franchise Tax Board to have a public profile on GivingEdge.

Please check your standing with each entity, using the guidance on this page. If your nonprofit isn't in good standing, please take immediate action to remedy the issue(s) and contact our team at bdog@sacregcf.org to review options for your organization's participation.

Though most of the grants the Foundation awards each year are directed by individuals, families, and organizations with charitable funds at the Foundation, we do manage a number of competitive grants. To learn more about these opportunities and to be alerted when they open, please visit the Foundation's website

In addition, we offer charitable funds customized to meet the needs of nonprofits. By opening a charitable fund with the Foundation, nonprofits like yours can set aside funds to create long-term stability, plan for future growth, and add to the organization’s credibility with key donors. We work closely with the leadership of your organization to help establish a fund that supports your current and future goals. As an additional benefit, we handle the administration of the fund, leaving your staff and board free to focus on what matters — your mission. Learn more about establishing a charitable fund for your nonprofit on our website.
