“Do you still want to make a difference in the world”?
Those were my thoughts in 2016 in my 3rd year of retirement, and I was looking for a sure thing, not a maybe.
Child Advocates of El Dorado County make a difference for children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse every day. I began my CASA experience as an advocate. Advocates are screened and trained to be the voice of children taken from their homes, often under traumatic circumstances. We help the court make the best decisions about the future permanent home for these children, but we also get to know and become a part of the children’s lives over the course of their case which can take over a year or more to resolve. In a time when a child’s life is completely uprooted, the CASA becomes an adult that the child can rely upon, sometimes the only consistent adult that child can rely upon to speak truth to power. I have advocated for four children, and I have served on the CASA Board as treasurer and now serve as President. As past treasurer, and now president of the board, I can tell you absolutely that we would not have the great organization we have today without our community support. Perhaps you have thought of being a volunteer or a board member but just couldn’t for whatever reason. That’s ok. However, you can still make a difference by helping us train, recruit, and support new advocates.
Dickson and I encourage you to make a sure bet difference in the world by giving to CASA on the big day of giving. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
