The Little Gallery That Could

The Pence Gallery is dedicated to making art accessible to everyone, and I  am thrilled to serve as the first Development Manager at the Pence Gallery, a role I began three months ago. In this position, I am dedicated to expanding our membership base, engaging with new businesses and sponsors, and raising vital funds to support the unique exhibits and programs that enrich our community. 

When I moved to Yolo County in 2016, I discovered the Pence Gallery, a treasure trove of engaging, unique, and thought-provoking art. I was amazed that such a stellar gallery was right here in our area! It felt remarkable not to have to travel to Sacramento or San Francisco to experience exceptional art.

Before I took on this role, I didn’t fully appreciate the gallery's incredible offerings. Though I attended a few Second Friday Art About events and visited the gift shop, I have been genuinely inspired by the depth and quality of the exhibitions and programs that the Pence provides at little or no cost. The gallery’s commitment to making art accessible to everyone is truly commendable. 

Now, more than ever, we need art in our lives. It may seem like a luxury for some, but art is essential. It provides meaning, enhances our understanding of the world, and nurtures our self-awareness. Art invites us to explore new ideas and enriches our collective experiences. It builds and strengthens communities by fostering connections, celebrating cultural identities, and encouraging engagement. These are vital contributions the Pence Gallery makes to our community!
