How I've Been Involved with The Root:
I found The Root when I was pregnant with my first child, in early 2022. I was looking for guidance for how to adapt weightlifting, running, and yoga for my new pregnant body. What I found was not only education, but community, support, laughter, and lasting friendships.
I stayed at The Root during my early postpartum period, and I’m now back for my second pregnancy. I don’t have quite as much time to spend this time around, but I’m so happy that The Root exists and is available to me—I want that for every birthing person.
I know also work part-time for The Root, doing admin and teaching a postpartum fitness class. I love being able to connect people to what The Root offers; it's a special place to be able to be a part of.
Why I'm Supporting The Root's continued Sustainability and Expanded Services:
The Root is a unique and valuable place that should be accessible to anyone who needs or wants its services. Supporting The Root will help it expand its reach to underserved and lower-income communities.
Pregnancy and childbirth are universal but also completely individual experiences, and no birthing person should feel isolated or underprepared. Please help me support The Root during this Big Day of Giving!
Note From The Root Team:
This Big Day of Giving we are hoping to raise a total of $10,000 to put towards programming for our non-profit to offer class vouchers to the constituents of our partners at the Valley Hi, Meadowview and La Familia family resource centers. In addition this campaign will allow us to continue our programming at The Root's flagship location in East Sacramento in addition to supporting our continued pilot of pop-up classes throughout Sacramento both at the family resource centers and other community locations.
No parent should go into their birth and postpartum journeys without feeling equipped to navigate the complex perinatal systems in our area.
It is our goal that every pregnant family in Sacramento have access to the fitness, educational and community supports that The Root provides, without cost being a barrier.
