Chalk It Up is a non-profit arts organization that is famous for organizing the three-day Chalk It Up! The Chalk Art & Music Festival which is held every year during the Labor Day Weekend in the Fremont Park of downtown Sacramento. The festival, now in its 34th year, aims to celebrate the region's art and artists. Over the course of three days, hundreds of artists, musicians, local craft and food vendors, and volunteers come together to promote community pride, civic participation, and social connection, with the financial support of donors and sponsors.
Chalk It Up's mission is to empower and support the next generation of Sacramento artists through targeted art grants for young artists and programs that inspire them. The organization awards $500 mini-grants through its Youth Arts Grant Program twice a year and holds the annual High School Self-Portrait Show each Spring to showcase the region's talented high school artists.
Chalk It Up believes that the arts, arts education, and festivals like the Chalk It Up Festival promote a sense of belonging and social connections, which are essential for healthy, thriving communities. The festival, grants, and student art show are all funded and operated by generous volunteers, donors, community partners, and sponsors.
