EDUCATION DEPARTMENT, CENTRAL TO SPREADING A LOVE OF THEATER!

It is no secret that education is foundational to all aspects of life, and it is no mystery as to why. Through education, children gain the tools they need to move through life and grow into their own. They are given a safe space to grow, learn, adapt, and be.

Similarly, it is no secret why access to an education in the arts is absolutely VITAL to all children. Giving kids the space to grow into their creativity allows them to express the people that they truly are. Safe to say, the arts are essential in helping kids move through the world.

That is why at ACME Theatre Company, our youth leaders help put on a yearly summer camp for the community. In this summer camp children ages 8-13 get the opportunity to be in a short play, and move through a whole play process, from casting to performance. It is a wonderful opportunity that allows love of theatre to spread far and wide. It brings joy and creativity into our community, and allows art to truly flourish within a younger generation.

In our summer program, kids meet every day for two weeks and work to create a piece of art that they are proud of. At the end of the two weeks, a culminating performance takes place that the parents and friends of participating children are encouraged to watch. It is an opportunity to come together and create, an opportunity to spread joy, and an opportunity to let kids be kids.

What's more, members of our very own company help to organize the whole summer camp. Our youth leaders, (such as Alisa and Nico), orchestrate and set up the whole camp. From registration to planning events and putting on the final show, these two work tirelessly to make sure things run smoothly. Those not doing behind the scenes work volunteer as directors and assistants and work to put on theatrical masterpieces. Our directors and assistants are specially trained to works with kids, and work collaboratively with one another to make sure everything runs smoothly. Our summer program plays are often silly, sometimes serious, but always ALWAYS a heap of fun. It is with the help of our wonderful volunteer directors that it stays this way!

This camp allows bonds to grow within our company, and gives company members a chance to contribute to promoting the arts. It gives our youth leaders, and the kids who join, experience with every aspect of the theater world.  It helps us create the world that we want to see; THROUGH THEATER!

This camp is important in cultivating spaces where young people get to be joyful and creative. In our fast paced and constantly moving world, there is not always room to celebrate slowing down and creating art. That is what Acme's Summer Program is ALL about!

Through theater games, acting exercises, bonding, restorative justice, and heaps of collaboration, our education program is always a shining success. You could even say is Acme Theater Company's pride and joy. BUT our youth leaders can't do it completely alone. They need your support raising the funds to be able to put on this incredible program. From renting space to making sure the kids have the resources they need, creating this wonderful program takes resources. That's why we need your help, (YES YOU), raising the money to continue this program.

We would be absolutely honored if you contributed to keeping our education program alive, and ensuring our ability to spread theater to our community for generations to come.

Sharing art with the world is a joy that we would be honored to keep on bringing. We would be even more honored if you considered donating to the Education Department this Big Day of Giving.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and for helping keep art alive! Your generosity is appreciated beyond words!
