I am proud to serve on the Board at The GreenHouse because this is such a special place of joy, safety, learning, and love.
For over 20 years, The GreenHouse has been at the heart of this beautifully diverse neighborhood enabling kids to grow into their full potential by providing tutoring, mentoring, field trips, summer camps, an educational garden, internships and more. Letting young people know they are seen, heard, valued, worthwhile. Giving them the self-confidence and skills that will help them thrive. Believing in them through life's ups and downs.
Here's a couple highlights from this year:
- We were able to greatly increase our arts enrichment last year, offering 3 Family Paint Nights, 9 art-related field trips, and 31 in-house art workshops over the course of the year. This was in response to a desire for more access to creative arts expressed by the community, and being able to do this was a dream come true.
- We sent our teens to a two-night camp in the mountains, where they canyoneered and rafted on the American River, slept outdoors, and talked about the power of prayer. They LOVED it!
- We expanded our summer high school internship program to be YEAR ROUND, offering teens year-round opportunities to develop career readiness skills
- For the second year in a row we saw big gains in reading achievement for elementary kids, with 45% advancing more than a full grade level in reading
Day by day, The GreenHouse walks beside youth and families in this special place, through the beauty and the struggle of growing up here. We hope you will join us today in investing in our young people!
