HEC connects low-income, underserved individuals with much needed resources and job training opportunities. Last year, HEC launched its first Forklift Training. HEC received 465 applications and was only able to fill 24 spots. The two-day forklift training program provided the 24 participants with training and certification on the operation of a forklift, followed by job readiness workshops that included: creating a resume, interview preparation, dressing for success, building healthy workplace relationships, and financial literacy. The program consisted of a very diverse group, including residents who were previously incarcerated, some in transitional housing, and almost half were women, who are often underrepresented in this industry. This job training opportunity helped pivot some program participants into a career in forklift operation and for others it will help them secure a higher paying, permanent forklift job. This is only one example of how critical HEC's work is in the community.

Your contribution helps HEC continue providing the community with financial education programs, free tax preparation services, and critical job training opportunities like the forklift training.

There is no greater feeling than knowing you are making a difference in someone's life, specially individuals that would otherwise not have access to opportunities that could help move them from poverty. The gratitude of program participants and their success stories is what keeps me motivated to continue the work I do at HEC.
