Over 100 students participate each year in one or more of the music performance groups under the direction of talented Music Director, David Lawrenson, including the Golden Hillmen Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Choir, Chamber Choir and Drumline programs at Placer High. It takes approximately $30,000 annually to support the music department. Our volunteer organization raises the necessary funds for operation to keep music at Placer High.
All proceeds from our efforts go 100% for benefit of the music program. We assist with many things, to include providing student uniforms (Marching Band, Drumline, Choir formal attire), instrument repair (and replacement when necessary), affiliation and competition fees, pep band music, coaching stipends for our small ensemble coaches, choir accompanists and drumline coaches, etc. On home football game days, we prepare and provide dinner for the Golden Hillmen Marching band (costs approximately $400 each dinner) - this promotes great camaraderie for our students as they enjoy a "family" meal in between vigorous after school practice and the Varsity Football game. We provide transportation when needed to competitions, as well as assist with the annual Spring Trip where the music department travels together to one of 4 rotating destinations (Anaheim, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle) to compete in the Heritage Music Festival as well as partake in many enriching experiences during that trip. We provide annual scholarships for continuing students to attend summer Music Camp, as well as 4-5 senior scholarships (not restricted to only music majors).
We depend upon generous community support to help us with our efforts, aside from our major annual fundraisers. We are very proud that our students give back to the community as well - our students appear in the annual Festival of Lights Parade, and the Veteran's Day Parade and ceremony on that day, as well as other important community events. Placer High School home football games would never be the same without the live music both in the stands and on the field at halftime - a tradition we are proud to continue.
We are ever grateful for your support of music education at Placer High School - we know that these student experiences in music performance and music appreciation are gifts that will last a lifetime.
