Girls on the Run (GOTR), the only national physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls, is designed to enhance 3rd-8th girls’ social, psychological, and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences and fosters an environment where every girl learns to be joyful, healthy, and confident.

Our goal is to ensure our program is accessible to any girl who wishes to participate by making need-based scholarships available to anyone who needs them. Demand for the GOTR program is particularly high in underserved communities where access to high quality after school programming is limited due to barriers such as socio-economic factors and limited volunteer support. Additionally, girls from low-income backgrounds are more susceptible to adverse health outcomes such as social-emotional problems and poor physical health.

Funded in 2003 GOTR Sacramento has been offering the program in spring and fall, and serving 700 girls annually. This year, in the spring season alone, we have 617 girls participating and 67% of them received partial or full scholarships. We anticipate an increased number of participants and increased needs for scholarships in the fall season.

GOTR is so much more than running. The curriculum is amazing. It teaches young girls to embrace their inner strength, be confident, have empathy, stand up for themselves and others. Our coaches are amazing. They create a welcoming environment where every girl can thrive and where girls feels a strong sense of belonging.

Thank you for supporting GOTR Sacramento and help girls be joyful, healthy and confident!
