Hey! I'm Nia the Communications Specialist for The Ring of Democracy. I bet you're wondering why you should donate to my organization! Here's why:
I have seen our impact on the community firsthand. Right now, our two biggest causes are educating our communities on their rights as workers and immigrants.
I've talked to parents, college students, teachers, and other everyday workers about how their workplace should be treating them better. I see the look of shock and relief that their sneaking suspicions that something is wrong has been proven right.
I've seen the look of determination and gratitude people have when we've educated them on what Red Cards are and how to use them to assert their right to silence when approached by ICE. I've seen people grab three, four, or five of these saying that they know people who need it.
Every single day that we're out in the community, or I'm talking to all of you gives me a sense of determination that I've lost these past years.
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I've been overwhelmed and felt powerless these few years. I know things need to change, but how am I supposed to do anything about it? What power do I have? I am just a 23 year old college grad, what can I do?
Working at The Ring of Democracy has shown me how I fight that good fight. It's empowered me to be an agent of change in my community! I am a part of an organization that does the important work needed in our communities! I get to talk with all of you and share our knowledge. And if we don't know? We'll find out for you! I can share the opportunities for others in my community to become changemakers just like I've become.
I've missed the sense of solidarity and purpose from being at my Historically Black University, and around people from other HBCUs. I've found that here at The Ring of Democracy. We're stronger when we empower our communities and stand together. This is what we do.
We engage, educate, organize, and mobilize Black, Brown, and other historically marginalized people to build power for themselves and their communities. We get in "The Ring of Democracy" to fight against threats to our communities.
Join us and let's fight for democracy! 💥🥊
