Community Resource Project, Inc. (CRP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Sacramento. CRP is a progressive organization, founded in 1972 by three Latino community leaders to provide much-needed services to low-income individuals. The agency originally offered employment training to men and women exiting the correctional system. Community Resource Project, Inc. quickly recognized the changing needs of the community, and in response, our mission evolved to focus on Housing, Health, and Education. These three strategic areas are fundamental in helping families achieve self-sufficiency.

Today, Community Resource Project, Inc. has a major impact on the families in Northern California, with service to three counties: Sacramento, Sutter, and Yuba. We provide a variety of programs in Energy and Weatherization services, Women, Infant, and Children-Health programs, and Education with funding from the California Department of Community Services and Development, the California Department of Public Health, HUD, Department of Energy, SMUD as well as local contract and grants.

Community Resource Project, Inc. is supported by a committed Board of Directors, community and local elected leaders, other community organizations and from public and private funding sources. Our dedicated staff provides services in more than ten languages to more than 60,000 clients annually. With this support, our experience, and continued attention to the changing needs of our community, Community Resource Project, Inc. will continue to build strong communities through collaborative efforts.

Where will your donation go in supporting CRP?

**Community Lactation Assistance Program**

CRP is unique in its ability to provide comprehensive clinical lactation services to WIC participants and other low-income parents in Sacramento County, thanks to funding from First 5 Sacramento. This FREE service allows low-income families to get assistance by phone, in-person, and even in their home, from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Our IBCLCs help new families with any breastfeeding challenge - large or small - that may come up, to help parents begin and continue breastfeeding. This level of support is hard to access for most parents, and even more challenging for low-income parents, since this service is not commonly offered through health care providers, and private IBCLCs can cost upwards of $200/visit out-of-pocket. Research shows that the majority of pregnant individuals intend to breastfeed. Additionally, research shows that breastfeeding provides life-long health protection for both child and parent and helps reduce health disparities among low-income and BIPOC communities. However, First 5 funding is decreasing across the state of California, putting CRP's Community Lactation Support Program at risk. As such CRP is looking for creative strategies to sustain this critical service. Without this program, low-income families in Sacramento County would have minimal access to clinical lactation support in the first year postpartum, resulting in likely decreased rates of breastfeeding initiation and duration, poorer maternal and child health outcomes, and greater health disparities among low-income parents and children.

Your financial support would benefit the Community Lactation Assistance Program by ensuring we are able to continue providing this much-needed service to low-income families in Sacramento County.

**Literacy is Key**

This year we hosted our 2nd annual Literacy is Key events in Sacramento, Yuba and Sutter Counties. We have given away over 400 books and connected families with countless resources throughout the Sacramento Region.

Literacy is Key is fully donor funded. This annual family event features a variety of community resources and nonprofit organizations, free bi-lingual children's books, a live story time, free lunch for attendees, and more, all in one location.

Your donation allows CRP to purchase bi-lingual children's books and host this free family event to underserved communities.

**Dia de la Familia- CRP’s 50th Anniversary Community Celebration**

Last year CRP celebrated its 50th anniversary with the Dia de la Familia community celebration. This free, in-person event was held at McClatchy Park in Sacramento, and featured a variety of community organizations and resources, live entertainment, fun activities, and delicious food. With over 500 attendees present, this special event was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Community Resource Project. One 5-year-old attendee said, “This is the best day of my life! When will you do it again?”, as he toted around his bag of goodies and free books.

It is community events like these that keep our communities connected to resources and offer them a chance to participate in fun activities that wouldn’t otherwise be available to them.

**Internship Program**

CRP implemented a paid internship program in 2023 to expand learning opportunities to college students looking into Health, Energy and nonprofit administration career paths. The internship program is offered to Sacramento, Yuba and Sutter County students and is open to both Community College and University students. This last year we celebrated 2 interns completing a one-year term and have helped shape the career paths of those students.

Your donations directly support the paid internship program by providing funding for learning opportunities such as special workshops, training and seminars to deepen the understanding and importance of nonprofit work. With your continued support, we hope to offer another year of internship opportunities to the leaders of our future.
