Our Youth & Children Enrichment Program is committed to guiding youth and children in settling and thriving through mentorship and engaging activities. Our plan for 2024 includes:
- Create a Leadership Program for Youth.
- Continue Emotional Intelligence and Art Workshops for Children.
- Introduce activities supporting Arabic language and culture, such as Arabic Storytime and Arabic language classes.
- Provide opportunities for kids to learn life skills through activities like cultural meal swaps and handicrafts.
- Explore Art teaching classes and exciting sports like roller/ice skating and soccer.
The Youth & Children Enrichment Program in Sacramento plays a vital role in supporting young individuals, especially immigrant and refugee youth facing unique challenges. The program empowers them to thrive, succeed, and contribute positively to their communities.
Newcomer youth often find themselves caught between two cultures, dealing with emotional trauma from war and resettlement to a new environment. Refugee families may encounter mental health challenges like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), major depression, anxiety, and isolation, leading some to turn to risky behaviors as a coping mechanism.
The Youth Empowerment program addresses these challenges through wellness activities focused on emotional intelligence, mindful planning, mentoring, and coaching. Planned activities include cultural-related events, outdoor team-building activities, as well as mindful walking, running, and exercising. Our goal is to make these activities accessible with low or no cost, ensuring inclusivity for participants facing financial constraints.
